Spend a few minutes talking to almost any Land Rover owner and they rarely begin with the specification. They begin with a story. It may be the Defender that belonged to their father, the Discovery that carried the children on every family holiday, or the Range Rover bought as a reward after years of hard work. Land Rovers tow horseboxes, work farms, transport muddy dogs and rescue friends from flooded lanes. They take us across fields, through snow and on adventures we remember for the rest of our lives. Even their little faults and individual quirks become part of their personality. Over time, a Land Rover stops being simply a vehicle and becomes a trusted family friend.

That is why losing one is so devastating. The empty space on the drive represents much more than the loss of metal, glass and machinery. It is the loss of family history, photographs, journeys and memories that no insurance settlement can replace. As Land Rover theft became faster, more organised and increasingly sophisticated, we realised that traditional security and ordinary tracking were no longer enough. Owners needed to know something was happening to their vehicle before it had vanished—not several hours later, when it could already have been hidden, dismantled or moved hundreds of miles away.

That belief led us to create DefenderDefender: a proactive security system designed by people who genuinely understand Land Rovers and what they mean to their owners. Installed independently of the vehicle’s original electronics, DefenderDefender can warn you about suspicious movement, tampering, power disconnection, ignition activity and a vehicle leaving a chosen geofence. Rather than simply answering the question, “Where has my Land Rover gone?”, it helps answer the far more important question, “What is happening to my Land Rover right now?” The alerts are sent directly to the owner because nobody knows where a vehicle should be—or whether its movement is unusual—better than the person who lives with it every day.

For more than eight years, every theft involving a vehicle protected by our active system and reported to us has resulted in the vehicle being recovered. We do not pretend that one device can make any vehicle impossible to steal. The strongest protection comes from combining visible physical security, sensible precautions and early warning.
